When Time is Short – Boot Camp for New Dads Shares Strategies for New Fathers Working Long Hours

Greg Bishop, founder of Boot Camp for New Dads, a non-profit orientation program for fathers-to-be, operating in more than 260 hospitals, clinics, schools, fire stations and churches around North America and internationally, and author of two books on fathering, provides new fathers with tips for spending at least a few hours a week with their baby.

Bishop offers strategies from the more than 200,000 new dads that have gone through Boot Camp in his second book, Crash Course for New Dads:  Tools, Checklists and Cheat Sheets on how dads can spend time with their babies even though they work long hours or frequently travel away from home:

·     Do everything you can to make sure you are there for your baby’s birth.

·     Change that first diaper.  Make the time you do have with your baby count as much as possible.  Set the tone that you are here to be a player and get involved

Greg Bishop, Founder of Boot Camp for New Dads Helps New Fathers Deal with Economic Realities in Latest Book

Today’s economic realities create difficult circumstances. Many careers demand long working hours and a new baby adds to your financial requirements. Two income families may find they now have to rely on just one income which further puts a strain on the amount of time a working parent can spend with baby.

Bishop explains, “The first three years of a child’s life are the most vital in shaping who s/he will become later in life. A parent will never have other opportunities like those when a child is an infant, so a working parent must make sure that s/he does spend time – even if it is just a couple of hours a week – alone with baby now.”

Many veteran dads have faced such circumstances. Bishop shares strategies from Crash Course for New Dads for when a working parent’s time is short:

Hardly home? Make the time you do have count as much as possible. Change those diapers. Set the tone that

Looking to make your baby smarter?

IRVINE, CA …

Over the past couple of months, there has been an uproar among parents over Baby Einstein toys and the unfounded claims that the toys will make a baby smarter. In light of this, Boot Camp for New Dads reminds parents that there is a substantiated way to raise your baby’s intelligence – through playtime with Dad.

Greg Bishop, author of two books on fatherhood and the founder of Boot Camp for New Dads (http://www.bcnd.org), a non-profit orientation program for fathers-to-be, operating in more than 260 hospitals, clinics, schools, fire stations and churches around North America and internationally, has worked with hundreds of thousands of dads over the past 19 years.

Bishop and thousands of dads (and moms) know that when it comes to raising infant intelligence, dad is the baby’s best toy. According to a recent article in Parents magazine, playtime may look like all fun, but is actually

Government vs. Corporate Contracting

Government vs. Corporate Contracting

June 28, 2010 by Clovia Hamilton

In this economy, businesses need not put all of their eggs in one basket.  They should seek public government contracts and private deals.  There are set asides in government contracts for small businesses, woman owned businesses, veteran owned businesses, and minority owned socially and economically disadvantaged businesses.  In order to be eligible, these businesses have to get registered and certified.  Businesses that do not meet these categories can team with businesses that do in order to take advantage of set asides.

I worked in government for more than 25 years and began the business development journey in 2005.  I have met thousands of business owners.  One topic that seems to confuse some business owners is whether their government business registrations and certifications can be used in corporate contracting.  Well, no.  Corporations have supplier diversity

Pictures from our trip to, “Augusta National Golf Course,” from April 7, 2009. The Masters Theme Music is by Augusta-Dave-Loggins, as posted on the internet. To me there is no better theme music in the world with a more beautiful back with the beginning of Spring at Augusta National. I hope everybody enjoys watching this video as much as I do.

A ?safety Net? for Tough Times -

DATELINE:  IRVINE, CA… Every year, infant formula is one of the most shoplifted items throughout the country.  This brings into focus a problem faced by increasing numbers of families with a new baby as the economy tanks.

Parents of new babies who wondered “how am I going to afford this” before their baby arrived, are now losing part or all of their income and/or home. Now what? There’s no real answer for them, other than cutting back and trying to replace the lost income. If they don’t have luck with replacing that income, things can get steadily worse.  With a baby screaming due to hunger and no money to pay for infant formula (which runs per week), the temptation for a father to steal it from the local market is understandable.  Yet, it is not an option.  Dad being arrested for shoplifting will only add to the economic nightmare for a young family.

According to Greg Bishop, founder of Boot Camp for

Lisbon ? the legendary city

3-time Masters Champion Nick Faldo, takes an inside look at the 11th Hole.

Lisbon ? the legendary city

A legendary city with a history spanning over 20 centuries, Lisbon has been Portugal’s capital since its conquest from the moors in 1147. The legendary Alfama, the oldest quarter of the city, still boasts its original layout along with Castelo and Mouraria. These traditional quarters, set on a hill on the banks of Tagus River, with their cobble stoned streets which are a delight to explore, old churches and fascinating architecture, offers an exotic atmosphere.

With spring-like winters and summers mellowed by the gentle breeze from the Atlantic, Lisbon is a year round holiday destination.  And apart from the old city with its gothic cathedrals, monuments, monasteries and museums, Lisbon is well known for its popular festivals, exquisite shopping and its exciting night life.

The main monumental attraction in Lisbon, the Castelo de Sao Jorge (Saint George’s Castle) portrays the early history of the city. Offering a spectacular panoramic view of Lisbon

New Inpatient Pain Program Aims to Return Patients to Work in Two Weeks

Chronic pain is a complex medical condition influenced by biological, physical, behavioral, environmental and social forces. Because this is true I am dedicated to and passionate about using a multidisciplinary approach, relying upon my well-rounded training and experience in the field of interventional pain medicine.

Using a multidisciplinary approach increases the chance of identifying the source of pain at its root and then developing a treatment plan from the very beginning that has the greatest potential of lessening pain and returning the patient to as normal a life as possible.

And, whenever possible, I believe the patient should receive relief from pain and become trained in coping techniques to speed up their recovery. Why would anyone want to delay the lessening of pain and improve their quality of life? That’s not rational. In fact, it is very irrational for patients and employers not to take Chronic Pain seriously and

Eleven Trillion Dollar Drive

Eleven Trillion Dollar Drive

For most Americans, it is difficult to visualize the number one trillion.  I’ve seen the examples using one hundred dollar bills but even that is vague because I usually don’t handle one hundred dollar bills.  Here’s how I would demonstrate it: an eleven trillion dollar drive across America.

During my journey I travel at a constant rate of 60 mph.  I make no stops for gas, food, rest or bathroom breaks.  The roads are clear; the weather is perfect.  I am driving from state capital to state capital; I want to make sure each state in the lower 48 is represented.  Let’s roll.

I begin my quest in Augusta to Montpelier, Vermont and then to Concord, New Hampshire.  I get clam chowder at a drive-thru in Boston, south to Providence, across to Hartford, up to ALbany, south to Trenton, across to Harrisburg and then Dover.  I skip across the Chesapeake Bay to Annapolis, see the sights in DC, south to Richmond, Raleigh, Columbia, Tallahassee and a
